Jumping at Town Hall
Last Friday my friend Tom and I decided to brave the cold Sydney night and mess around at Town Hall with a single flash and some stairs. It didn't take too much convincing on my part but the beer and warm buttery pretzel we had before heading out might have helped.
For this shoot, I should have compensated for the single flash by using a reflector but that was probably the only thing I did not bring along. To compensate for the lack of a fill light, I got Tom to jump higher. That didn't work. I was also having problems where the lens I was using was not able to pic a focal point so I had to try focus manually. I set a high aperture to get as much in and was shooting at 1/200 to keep in the flash sync speed and freeze the motion. I was counting on the flash putting out enough light to give a good exposure but not being able to focus properly gave me a lot of blurry images. I again compensated by getting Tom to jump higher AND further. This too did not work.
But it was still a good laugh seeing him stack on the wet concrete. Less funny after I stacked. The final image came out quite dark with blown out highlights however it still looked cool.
